The other day my sister and one of my best friends from Oklahoma went down to Bishop Arts district in Dallas to kick around and get out of the house. As we were driving there I looked at my friend, Emma, an said “wow pizza sounds so dope right now..” *yes I actually said ‘dope’* LOL! They had both been to Eno’s Pizza Tavern before but I had never actually been so with the craving for pizza, being in Bishop Arts District, and wanting to see what all the hype was about we went it! Let me tell you… It was sooo good! I have heard for years now just how amazing it is but just hadn’t had a chance to go. Our waitress was such a doll and everyone was so nice. Not knowing what to order for us to all share, I asked what her favorite thing on the menu was. She recommended the “Pig Smiley” pizza and y’all… It was AMAZING. The strangest thing was that it had a light honey drizzle all over and it was the best. thing. of. my. life. It makes me want to put honey on all my pizza now. If you are ever in the Dallas area and need a good place to try out I would definitely tell you to pop into Eno’s. Was amazing!

Happy New Year everyone. 2015 was an amazing year but it was only a tease for how amazing 2016 is about to be!

This last weekend my friends and I decided to book a plane ticket and get away from Norman, OK… So we went to Los Angeles, California! Let me just say, it was so nice to get away from these gray gloomy days we have been having here in Oklahoma and go play in some sunshine. We started the day on Saturday by going to the Manhattan Pier. My favorite part was watching all the surfers, since it was Saturday and so nice out, there were so many of them! We were only there for a little bit but the time we did spend on the pier it was hard not to take your eyes off of them. As I watched these surfers try to get up on the wave and almost be up, a wave would come and then BAM!, it would take them out.

This made me think of my life. Most of the time if we are lucky in life we can “get up” the first time we try at something BUT in most cases we fall and have to try again. In a strange way, watching these surfers encouraged me. They are people who continually fall but they continually try again and get up because they want to reach their goal, SURF! There are countless times I have a dream or goal in life but it is hard and I don’t succeed the first time. It would be way easier to change the goal, lower the bar, or just give up and “swim back to shore”. But I know that the Lord has called me higher than that and He calls you higher too.

This morning I was reading in Psalms and as I was reading Psalm 138, verse 8 stood out to me and just tugged on my heart.

“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever- do not abandon the works of your hands.”

I can not tell you how comforting that was for me to read.. That even when I feel discouraged and waves keep knocking me down one after another, after another; the Lord has got me and is my constant life jacket. He is still working on me and growing me to be the person He has created me to be to fulfill the purpose on my life.
If you are like me, and feel like the waves of life are just crashing into you every time you try and get up… DON’T QUIT. He has something so special for you and has a purpose for you. Just keep seeking Him and swimming out into the next wave.

It may be scary and you may fail again but you never know when it will the THE wave He has for you to stand up on.

Happy Friday, pretty people!
Wow, what a long week it has been. Starting this week off with getting braces on Monday (yes braces!!), and a wedding packed weekend prior for my dear friends Caitlin + Justin had me beat. The wedding turned out beautiful and it was such an honor to get to sing and play guitar in their ceremony. The real cherry on the cake from the weekend was getting braces on Monday morning. I am sure almost all of you are saying “What..? Braces…? She doesn’t need braces? Why would she be getting them now?! She is 21 years old!”

Well, truth is I wanted them! I have never had braces growing up and have always had next to perfect teeth, but as I get older my teeth are starting to shift and change and I wanted to go ahead and fix it now while I am young. With that being said I am sad to be taking off a year of competing in the Miss USA Organization, but I know it will be worth it to have a perfect smile in the end. This will benefit me in the long run competing for Miss USA anyway. The only part that has been hard is excepting the fact that I MIGHT have to have a jaw surgery to fix my over bite, but my Orthodontist is still unsure if that is necessarily so we will see… Only time and some teeth moving around will be able to tell that. I can only take it one day at a time.

I could not be more excited that the weekend is finally here, this week has been super long. The light at the end of the tunnel for me has been that I will be on a plane and off to LA this weekend to work on some stuff for you guys. Can’t wait to share and hangout in the City of Angels.

In a hurry to get to work I slowly and carefully drove past her, and then proceeded my route. I drove a few more blocks and felt tears begin to well up in my eyes. Those blocks were the longest stretches of road I had ever driven as I just felt the Lord pressing on my heart and asking me “why didn’t you stop and help her? What would I have done? what if you were lost and couldn’t see?”

Every second that past, my heart became more and more overwhelmed with sadness and conviction. I finally hit the third stop sign and turned around.

I began driving around looking for her and found her walking towards campus corner, as she maybe have been a new student at OU walking to class trying to find her way on the first day of school. I rolled down my window and began to shout at her “Are you okay!! Do you need help finding your way? Are you lost?” She turned her head looking around to see where the voice she was hearing was coming from and then said back with a smile “Yes, yes, I am good! We are good!” and kept walking as the pretty lab quickly dragged her along the sidewalk.

I started rolling up my window and the second the glass hit the top I burst into tears. I was then drowned with a wave of compassion, sadness, and reality. That young girl had just changed my life forever and she doesn’t even know it.

I couldn’t even see the road as I started my route to work again, with a flood of tears streaming down my face. It hit me. How selfish am I that it was even a thought whether or not to stop and help her? Am I really that worried and in a hurry that getting to work on time is more important to me than this young girl?

She may not have needed me today but I sure needed her.

Today, I am reminded by this perfect stranger’s smile just how fortunate and blessed I am. I am driving to work, I have eyes that can see, a voice that can speak, ears that can hear, and a heart that is beating. I am blessed beyond measure.

Everyday is a gift. Every breathe is a gift. Every life is a gift.

I share this story to remind you, as I have been reminded today, to slow down.

Take a look around you, take a look at your life and your heart. Are you speeding around in a hurry and worried about yourself, like I was? Have you forgotten just how blessed you are? Are you withholding blessings from those around you? Even something as simple as checking on someone to make sure they are doing okay or gifting a friend with your company or time? What is the Lord laying on your heart?

I am putting myself in this young girls shoes today… What if every time I needed the Lord, as I wander around life lost, worried, and confused, He didn’t stop for me and had something better to do? Where would I be in life?

I pray today that the Lord would give me new eyes to see things the way He does, in all areas of my life. I pray for this young girl and that a miracle would happen for her today. I pray for the hearts of those in this country that need a wake up call like I did today, that the Lord would give them new eyes to see people through the lens He intends for us to.

Let us not be so wrapped up in our own worlds that we forget to step inside someone else’s and care for them. Until we do this we will never be able to live life to the fullest and experience the sweetest blessing of blessing someone else.
